Jakob Kullberg with Aliisa Barrière
Cello suites from Bach to Nørgård, and the world premiere of Kajia Saariaho's new commission, Concordia.
Praised internationally for his performances of the modern cello concerto, Jakob Kullberg is one of the most active and diverse young Danish instrumentalists of our time. He has a unique working relationship with the Danish composer Per Nørgård.
In 2011 Kullberg moved to Paris to focus on his collaboration with Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, the Festival's Artist-in-Residence for 2017.
Kullberg and Finnish-French violinist Aliisa Neige Barrière will perform Saariaho's Concordia, written for the two of them, for the first time this evening. This new commissioned work sits between well-loved cello suites by Britten and Bach, and a new hybrid work created in collaboration between Jakob Kullberg and Per Nørgård.
