The Janitors - Café Mono, Oslo

The Janitors are a Swedish psychedelic noise rock band, masters in producing some fine full-on aural assault that will scrape the back of your skull, or, as they they like to call it themselves, “Evil shoegaze boogie woogie”. Based in Stockholm and signed to excellent UK psych label Cardinal Fuzz Records and Danish Bad Afro Records, The Janitors appear as an XL proportioned five-piece live.

What characterizes The Janitors is a mixture of heavily distorted and psychedelic noise sounds, together with a repetitive monotonous bassline and drums that propel the dark, murky and most evil psychedelia. They have often been compared to early The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen 3 and Loop but they twist and turn their roots into a much more evil and disturbing drone.

It has been over 2 years since we last heard from The Janitors. Their last release “Evil Doings Of An Evil Kind” told tales of the emerging evil in politics and the rise of far right in many European countries – it was a darkness and claustrophobia that The Janitors captured on that release. In the time that has since passed and with evil of the right wing spreading, The Janitors have distilled their fury into the concentrated form of the 7 tracks of barbed wire fuzz presented on their new LP “Horn ur Marken” that will be released by Cardinal Fuzz on April 28th.
