Conquering energy poverty – Off-grid solutions and financial inclusion
The absence of modern energy services is known to be a barrier for development in rural communities. This seminar will discuss the relation between de-centralized energy solutions and financial inclusion as well as understanding how access to renewable energy can fast-track development.
The energy access outlook report from 2017 states that: “Energy access is the “golden thread” that weaves together economic growth, human development and environmental sustainability.”
It is widely acknowledged that the private sector must play a key role in achieving the energy access goals. However, the private sector is currently struggling to scale up fast enough, and it is particular challenging to reach the poorest who will benefit greatly from starting to climb the energy ladder. New collaboration models are needed. BRIGHT believes that the humanitarian sector plays a key role in achieving these goals together with private companies.
This seminar invites Norwegian stakeholders to come together, share practices and learn from each other, when discussing:
* How can energy poverty be tackled faster with new cooperation models and what are the challenges to provide access to de-centralized (off-grid) energy?
* How can solar energy foster development outcomes and be a tool for financial inclusion?
