Villa Stenersens serie om ferske utgivelser om arkitektur og design, Fra biblioteket, er denne kvelden viet et europeisk samarbeid. I regi av Iconic Houses Network kommer professor emeritus i kunsthistorie, Tim Benton for å snakke om Eileen Grays Villa E-1027. Residensen på Côte d’Azur var Grays første arbeid som arkitekt, og er blitt et ikon både som arkitektur og for sin gjennomgående design i både faste og løse møbler.
Professor emeritus Tim Benton (f. 1945) er en ledende forsker innen modernismens arkitektur, med Le Corbusier som spesialfelt. Hans forskningsfelt omfatter også tegning, foto og maleri. Benton har utgitt en rekke bøker, blant annet biografien «Le Corbusier Le Grand» og "The Villas of Le Corbusier 1020 1930". Benton har også bidratt til utstillinger ved Victoria & Albert Museum; «Art Deco» og «Modernism: Designing a New World», og den første retrospektive utstillingen av Charlotte Perriands arbeider i Pompidou Centre, Paris.
Villa Stenersen åpner dørene kl 18 denne kvelden, og før og etter foredraget er det mulig å se utstillingen Le Corbusier ved havet, som viser reproduksjoner av tegninger, foto og malerier laget av den kjente arkitekten, kunstneren og byplanleggeren i perioden 1926 -36.

Between 9-16 October 2018, Tim Benton (1945), Professor Emeritus in Art History, will tour four European cities to present Eileen Gray’s iconic Villa E-1027 in Cap Martin in the 4th edition of the European Iconic Houses lecture series. After many years of struggle to get the restoration and management of the Villa E-1027 on track, Eileen Gray’s masterpiece is open to the public and a member of the Iconic Houses Network since 2015.Iconic Houses connects architecturally significant houses from the 20th century that are open to the public as house museums. Since 2014, European members of the network started to bring an international speaker to Europe for a lecture tour. The lectures are usually followed by a film or documentary about the house.
This year expert Tim Benton is invited to talk about Villa E-1027 on the Côte d’Azur. Benton is a leading researcher in modernist architecture, with Le Corbusier as a special field of expertise. His field of research also includes drawing, photography and painting. Benton has published a number of books, including his classic study of the design of Le Corbusier’s Villas in Paris in the 1920s that was republished in a revised edition by Birkhäuser: The Villas of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret 1920-1930 (2007). He is currently working on a life of Le Corbusier (Reaktion Books) and a book on Le Corbusier’s domestic architecture (1910-1935). He has contributed to exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum; Art Deco 1910-1939 (2003) and Modernism Designing a new world (2006), and the first retrospective exhibition of Charlotte Perriand in the Pompidou Center, Paris (2006).The lecture is held in English.
Villa Stenersen opens the doors at 18 this evening and before and after the lecture it is possible to see the exhibition "Le Corbusier by the Sea", which shows reproductions of drawings, photographs and paintings made by the famous architect, visual artist and urbanist in the period 1926 -36 .
The doors close at 21. We serve drinks, and both entrance and serving are free. Limited number of seats.
